ABOUT PEOPLE EQUALS PROFITS

Founder

Lanett Austin Kesse 

PEPs was founded by Lanett Austin Kesse, a seasoned HR executive and people strategist with deep experience across Fortune 500 companies, startups, and high-growth organizations.

 

Lanett began her career in a Fortune 500 company, where she discovered her passion for employee engagement, leadership development, talent management, and diversity. Early on, she recognized how access to corporate opportunities, often including six figure salaries, bonuses, and stock options could change lives and create generational wealth, particularly for talent from HBCUs and underrepresented communities.

 

From corporate America, Lanett brought her expertise into startups across sales, manufacturing, and cannabis, helping scale an organization from employee number three through IPO. Over five years, the company grew to more than 6,300 employees across 23 U.S. states and three European countries, where she led HR, talent management, DEI, and employee relations.

 

Through that journey, one truth became undeniable: When organizations put people first, revenue follows.

 

Lanett also experienced the cost of leaders who failed to value people; where bias replaced performance, high performers became threats, and HR was treated as an afterthought. After being unjustly let go early in her career, she turned that experience into purpose, committing her work to building healthier, more equitable, and more profitable organizations.

 

That commitment became People Equals Profits.
